Town Information - About Boonton

The Town of Boonton is located in the northwest part of Morris County, about 22 miles west of the George Washington Bridge and 7 miles north of Morristown. It is conveniently located near the intersection of Interstates 80 and 287.

Located on hilly terrain alongside the scenic Rockaway River, Boonton offers spectacular views and unique geographic features. With many homes built in the mid- to late-19th Century, Boonton offers a wealth of character and historical interest. The town's beginnings centered on iron manufacturing, while the presence of the Morris Canal that ran just behind Main Street ensured Boonton's early years were bustling and lucrative. At one time, Boonton was a safe and busy stop on the Underground Railroad, and one of its local theatres (now gone) was a popular vaudeville showcase.

Today, Boonton is home to executives, skilled workers, and independent business people. Easy transportation into Manhattan via commuter train or bus service makes Boonton a popular home for New York City commuters, while many other residents work in the surrounding areas of Morris County.
